Koi Pond: Biological Filters
Contrary to common belief, biological filters do not process or filter the solid waste of fish in Koi pond. They continue to build and rot, creating a breeding ground for harmful species of heterotrophic bacteria that are pathogenic to koi fish. As indicated, the biological filtration process uses bacteria to break Nitrosomonas ammonia to nitrite and Nitrobacter, plus the conversion of nitrite to nitrate, which is less harmful to koi fish.
Plants that now use nitrate and phosphate fertilizers, if they have not provided an adequate proportion of water plants to koi fish, "hard" algae (growing on rocks and walls of the koi pond) and "free" use of nitrate and phosphate algae to reproduce. The key to prevent this condition, called "algae blooms," is to provide sufficient nonsoil plants like lettuce and water hyacinths to compete for nitrate and phosphate. Since these two plants are tropical, and can only survive in warm climates, more resistant varieties such as Elodea and Anacharis be held well in cold weather. These plants are commonly used in the bio-filter ponds.
A biography of a pond filter is used in conjunction with ponds shallow koi fish stocks with small koi. Also eliminate the need for a mechanical biological filter and a second pump to operate it. The bio-pond filter is located higher than the main pond for two reasons. OK, so I'm going to high school and have a assignmet asking me to make a treasure map (A3 paper). Not just a simple one but one with lots of details and one that seems realistic.
